Green HAC – heating and cooling from the depth of the mine?

In abandoned mines… there is a potential! We know that closing them can have negative impact for local communities, but inactive mine shafts can be a base for an eco-friendly system of generation and storage heat and cooling. We named our technology Green GAC because it is an eco-friendly system for heating and cooling.

The innovative method was patented by Michal Rosol, president of SMG Silesia, together with co-authors Lukasz Bartela, a professor at the Silesian University of Technology, and Dr. Sebastian Waniczek. Green HAC will be an underground system for heat and cold extraction and storage using post-mining shafts. They reach hundreds of meters deep into the ground and are an ideal storage area. What's more, the great depth allows for the extraction of geothermal energy.

01

Cooling and heating can be cheaper.

02

There is no need of expensive liquidation of mine shafts

03

Mine whafts are close to densely populated areas, so connecting Green HAC with district heating would be easy.

04

Abandoned mine areas again will become beneficial for local communities.

05

Green HAC can be a way to avoid air-polution.
A technology that supports the national energy system in a positive transformation has come within reach. Green HAC is a simple path to low-cost and environmentally friendly heating and cooling.
